Chiropractic care is chosen for a series of health problems. And Chiropractic Care may help you if you suffer from joint problems, but it’ll depend on your condition and the causes of your pain.
Some joint problems/issues may be contraindicated for chiropractic care , you can ask your chiropractor if you are a good candidate for this treatment. Even in cases where gull spine high velocity adjustments are contraindicated , Chiropractors may be able to offer a gentle joint or muscle manipulation instead as well as a multitude of soft tissue therapies.
Joint pain can cause a domino effect of tightness, spasms and pain in the surroundings, muscles, ligaments and other tissues. And working on that may help your health.
Causes of Joint Pain
The causes of pain in the joint will determine what type of treatment is the best for you. Some joint conditions include:
Osteoarthritis
Is the most common type of arthritis and may cause joint pain, because the cartilage that are surrounding your joints suffer from wear and tear, leading to bones rubbing on one another and to a lot of pain and swelling.
Chiropractic care may address some of the causes of osteoarthritis, because the joint can be damaged with time due incorrect posture and misaligned joints and non correct body mechanics, such as improper prolonged sitting, walking and standing. A chiropractor can fix the tissues, preventing your condition from getting worse – but it is not possible to restore the cartilage that is already lost.
Rheumatoid Arthritis
There are a few diseases that can be caused by the immune system attacking your tissues, and medication may help with the pain. Chiropractors cannot prescribe any type of medication, so you’ll also need to see your care provider.
It’s not recommended to get joint manipulation in the areas where the disease is active. But chiropractic care is helpful with getting your immune system to work better, and can potentially help you with your immune problems.
There are other joint conditions that are not caused by arthritis, and chiropractic care is more effective, including:
- Injuries: fall, car accidents or other type of injury that lead to joint pain.
- Bursitis: the inflammation of the bursae, the small sacs of fluids that cushion the joints.
- Fibromyalgia: a health issue that causes widespread pain in the muscles and joints.
- Tendinitis: the inflammation of the tendons that attaches muscles to the bones.
The treatments will help you restore range of motion, and the chiropractor is supposed to help you understand and avoid the motion that caused the injury, preventing it from happening again.
When to choose Chiropractic Care for Joints?
If you have a care provider, it’s important to talk to them to understand if a chiropractor can help you and would be a good addition to your treatment.
Chiropractic care is good for you to help you reduce the nerve pressure from the joints, decreasing pain and the tingling sensation with spine alignment.
Also, as we’ve said above, they’ll help you with joint mobility, because stiffness can prevent you from moving around freely. Chiropractic care will help you restore the function of the joints by taking into account your whole condition and then determining the right treatment.
The adjustments are the most common treatments and involve the manipulation of the joints, but the type of adjustment or even if it’s possible to adjust will depend on your condition/s.
Other non-invasive therapies may be recommended by our chiropractors, such as:
- Acupuncture: uses small needles inserted on the skin to stimulate some points of the body, relieving pain;
- Massage therapy: improves blood circulation and reduce the inflammation and pain;
- Exercises: to help you strengthen the muscles around the joints and improve range of motion.
But the treatments can only be recommended after a consultation, our chiropractors must take a detailed history and really take into account all of the factors that may be causing your current complaint. From that point they will recommend a treatment plan tailored to your condition.
